Schedule for the Vibha Awareness Drive 2007

Wednesday March 7th , 2007 : Volunteer Awareness Session on the Projects supported by Vibha. This session will focus on the project evaluation process and presentations on 3 projects recently evaluated and approved by Vibha Bayarea Projects team.

Wednesday March 14th, 2007 : Session to help identify ways we can do fundraising in novel and more efficient ways. We may add more items to brainstorm.

Wednesday March 21st, 2007 : Volunteer Awareness Session on work being done by AID India to improve the reading levels of 3rd to 5th graders in Tamil Nadu, India.

  • Per Pratham survey, on average the reading literacy is 50 % among children in  grades 3 to 5.

  • AID has solved this problem in Tamil Nadu by launching Campaign to ensure all children read Tamil fluently

  • The program is scaled this year to 30000 primary schools in TN and will benefit 2 Million children

  • How can the program be implemented to the other states as well,  using the implementation experiences in Tamilnadu

More than 50% of school going children in grade 5 cannot even read a simple paragraph in Tamil. The performance of the kids in other subjects is also very poor. The program Padippum Inikkum ( Education could be Fun ) was started in 2002 with evening support centres. A simple reading module was developed in 2004 and after several refining iterations finally in 2006, 182 teachers in 2 blocks were trained with support from the Tamilnadu government. Data analysis shows that 88% children had improved their reading levels in 2 months. Once the desired reading levels are reached, the children are made to sustain the reading levels with a story card library in all the schools.

March 1st - March 31st 2007 : Patron outreach campaigns. The Focus of these campaigns will be to talk to our valuable Patrons and spread awareness about the problems faced by underprivileged children in India and how each and every individual can take part in the Vibha movement towards establishing a brighter future for these children.

 

March 31st 2007: "Meet and Greet" sessions with Vibha patrons.
